Tutorial: Photo editing for Instagram

Photo editing apps - tutorial by Eva Thoeni

After some people asked how I edited one of my latest images on Instagram (the one above) I decided to make a quick tutorial. I almost always use a combination of various photo editing apps. Currently, my favorite ones are VSCOcam and Afterlight.

Here is a before and after of a similar image that I edited for this tutorial:

First I opened the image with VSCOcam and applied my favorite filter: F2 at 100 percent. I adjusted the exposure (the original image was shot in HDR on my iPhone and turned out a bit dark), added some red to the shadows and a bit of contrast too. After I was satisfied I saved the image to my camera roll.

In Afterlight I opened the file that I first edited with VSCOcam and applied one of the seasons filters at about 50 % opacity and my favorite light leak (at a low opacity). And that’s it, easier than you might think ;-) !

I do have some settings that I apply most of the time to keep a consistent look for my Instagram gallery but trying new combinations is always a lot of fun.

What photo editing app do you enjoy most?

Ich finde so ein Einblicke in die Bearbeitungsschritte sehr interessant. Gerade bei VSCO Cam, da es eine meiner Lieblings Apps auf dem iPhone ist. Afterlight habe ich allerdings noch nicht oft verwendet.
