Earlier this year I took a short trip to Holland with my parents to celebrate some birthdays and visit family. Over the years this country has won my heart – and not only because of the food . (If you are into dutch food too, I recommend you to order your favorites via this website: www.realdutchfood.com)
Here are some images from the trip (I didn’t take many photos but enjoyed the very limited time with family) and some reasons why Holland is kind of my second home.
One of the highlights about going to Holland is the lack of mountains. I don’t know how long I could live without them, but seeing them slowly disappear when driving north is kind of liberating. The photographer in me absolutely loves having the longest golden hour (I don’t have golden hour at all where I live) and actually having the sky as your backdrop (and not some woods or mountains) is something I really enjoy. And as we mostly leave early in the morning I have seen some of the most beautiful sunrises driving “home” from this country.
I have always stayed with family when in Holland and I can still remember waking up to the sound of people walking their dogs every morning when staying with my grandma as a child. To me, not staying in a hotel is the best way to relax and clear my mind. You just go for a walk around the neighborhood and totally blend in with all the other people living there. This is probably the biggest reason why I feel so at home there.
One of the things I love most about Holland are all the flowers. Going to a flower shop is the best! You have so much choice (and it’s way cheaper than here). One dream of mine is to go and see the tulip fields at full blossom some day.
We usually plan some sightseeing and visiting other cities like Amsterdam or Utrecht and the beach (!). But I enjoy just walking around the city that has become so familiar to me, and yet discovering new places every time.
Have you ever been to Holland? Let me know about your experiences!
