How to make a Vacation Memory Collage

How to Make a Vacation Memory Collage

I always bring home a small bag full of receipts, bus tickets and other (pretty) things that remind me of happy memories from a vacation. Instead of putting them in a box somewhere I wanted to make a pretty collage for our flat.

Here is an easy diy for your very own Vacation Memory Collage:

Get yourself a deep box picture frame. I used a white one from Ikea (bought some years ago).

Then, collect all the things you want to include in your collage. You could use a paper cocktail umbrella, bottle caps, small instax images, … Just make sure they are special to you (or fun :) )! You will also need your favorite photo from the vacation. For my Netherlands Vacation Memory Collage I used a photo of the two of us, a map from our InterRail brochure, some shells, an Amsterdam city map, a bus ticket and some more receipts.

Next, decorate! I wrapped the map around the mat (that came with the picture frame) and ensured that you could see the Netherlands in the top left corner. I used adhesive tape to secure the photo from the back and fixed all the receipts and tickets onto the map.

Last I lay the shells into the picture frame, put the collage on top and closed the lid.

I first made this Vacation Memory Collage some years ago (pre-pinterest) and got inspired by a magazine that had some home decor projects using maps. I have 3 of them welcoming me when I come home, they remind me of great vacations with my love. What kind of souvenirs do you bring home?
